Position Summary

Qcept Technologies Inc. is the industry leader in Non-Visual Defect (NVD) inspection systems, including both sub-monolayer residue defects and process induced charge defects. Qcept is currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Field Service Engineer to support its growing base of advanced semiconductor wafer inspection systems. The Senior FSE shall focus on two areas: (i) manufacturing operations based in Fremont, CA and (ii) on-site field service support at our customer sites located around the globe. This shall include system build, final test, qualification, shipping, installation, and maintenance of our wafer inspection systems. This position reports to the Manufacturing and Field Service Manager who is based in our Atlanta, GA headquarters.

Essential Functions and Requirements
  • Provide on-site and remote field service support for Qcept customers, including system installation and preventative / corrective maintenance for complex inspection systems.

  • Provide maintenance support for a broad range of areas including diagnosis and repair of electrical, mechanical, robotic, factory automation and software related elements.

  • Maintain strong customer relations and overall customer satisfaction, including a strong emphasis on contractual commitments regarding response time and system uptime.

  • Provide instruction in the operation and maintenance of the Qcept system, including both basic maintenance training at the customer site and advanced training provided at Qcept.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering diagrams and drawings, pneumatic and electrical schematics, manufacturing and service procedures, and bill of materials a must.

  • Provide detailed written records of all system related issues from manufacturing to in the field support of systems, including Field Service Work Orders using our CRM system.

  • Work with our third-party manufacturing partner to jointly perform final test and system qualification prior to hand-off to applications engineering for pre-shipment acceptance.

  • Work with manufacturing partner and Qcept engineering to improve documentation and procedures for integration, final test, qualification and installation at the customer site.

  • Participate in the review and development of system and sub-system components quality control procedures, including incoming quality assurance for manufacturing and spares.

  • Write and distribute daily updates to the key members of the Qcept team including status updates for system manufacturing, customer installations, and open issues.

  • Travel both internationally and domestically 40% to 60%, possibly higher at times, with a willingness to support variable work schedules including off-hours, holidays, weekends.

Education

The candidate should have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree (AS) in Electronics, Mechanical Engineering or comparable technical field of study; –or– two years of electronic / mechanical related education with 5-10 years of related industry experience.

Desired Skills and Experience
  • Minimum 5 years direct experience in field support of semiconductor capital equipment, with preference for inspection and / or metrology tools. Manufacturing experience a plus.

  • Strong understanding of electronics, electrical circuits, and mechanical aptitude including the ability to operate basic hand tools, meters, scopes, test/calibration instruments, etc.

  • Strong understanding of electromechanical motion-control systems including wafer robot setup, configuration and support. Experience with Asyst EFEM systems a strong plus.

  • Experience with manufacturing methodologies, quality control programs, and final test procedures. Ability to review and improve documents and procedures a bonus.

  • Excellent computer skills, including literacy with Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) a must. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

This position requires continuous physical effort with intermittent and long-term work cycles, standing, walking, sitting, repetitive motion and unassisted lifting up to 35 pounds. Furthermore, the candidate must be able to work in a cleanroom environment more than 50% of the time, which includes wearing cleanroom protective clothing. Additionally, the candidate shall be willing and able to work extended hours at the customer site on an as needed basis. Finally, significant domestic and international travel required, typically 40% to 60% and possibly higher at times.

Location

Position shall be based in the Milpitas / Fremont area, with extensive travel both domestically and internationally (Korea, Japan, etc). Upon acceptance of this position, the candidate will need to spend several months at Qcept’s Atlanta headquarters for the required system training.
