Position Summary

Qcept Technologies Inc. is the industry leader in Non-Visual Defect (NVD) inspection systems, including both sub-monolayer residue defects and process induced charge defects. Qcept is currently recruiting for a Senior Applications Engineer to support its growing base of advanced semiconductor wafer inspection systems. This position will support customers globally and shall provide on-site support for new system acceptance, applications development, training, recipe management, data analysis, and data interpretation. This position reports to the Executive Vice President, who is the acting Applications Engineering Manager.

Essential Functions and Requirements
  • Provide applications engineering support covering a broad range of areas including system acceptance, apps development, training, recipe management and data analysis.

  • Provide daily support to the customer including basic services such as wafer scanning, recipe creation / editing / management, and report writing including data interpretation.

  • Write and distribute daily updates to the key members of the Qcept team including status updates for ongoing applications work, open issues and upcoming plans.

  • Instruct customers in the operation, recipe management and basic daily support needs through both formal training classes as needed and ongoing daily customer interactions.

  • Provide support for customer evaluations, including data analysis, data interpretation and generating the final evaluation reports, and may include live demos for customers.

  • Work with Qcept Field Service Engineers for basic service, repairs, system and software upgrades, and overall product support either onsite, via phone or via e-mail.

  • Work with the business development team to ensure that the customer is utilizing the inspection systems to gain value and thus justify the need for additional systems.

  • Work with product marketing and engineering to provide feedback on the open issues and customer inputs regarding hardware and software feature enhancements and bugs.

  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally in support of other customer sites as well as to work at Qcept offices in the United States and attend industry conferences.

Education

The candidate shall have a minimum of a Bachelors Degree (BS), and ideally a Masters Degree, in an engineering or science discipline applicable to the semiconductor industry. Additionally, the candidate shall have at least seven (7) years of related experience in either a semiconductor fab role or equipment vendor position. Experience in both the fab and equipment sectors is a bonus, as is specific experience in defect inspection and/or yield engineering roles.

Desired Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of related experience in either a semiconductor fab role as a process engineer or with an equipment vendor as an applications engineer.

  • Hands on and direct experience working with defect inspection systems, metrology tools or yield engineering software a plus. Experience in other process areas acceptable.

  • Direct experience in a process engineering or applications engineering role, with a strong preference for work with defect inspection and/or yield engineer tools.

  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing, with a solid understanding of the English language to enable effective communication with Qcept offices in the US.

  • Efficiency working with Microsoft Windows XP systems and the Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel are highly desired.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

The candidate must be able to work in a cleanroom environment more than 50% of the time, which includes wearing cleanroom protective clothing. Additionally, the candidate shall be willing and able to work extended hours at the customer site on an as needed basis.

Location

This position shall be based in northern California at the Qcept office located in Milpitas, CA with work also performed at our manufacturing partner site in Fremont, CA. There is a requirement for both domestic and international travel (35%~50%) as required for on-site customer support.
